NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee's Severe Weather Awareness Week is Feb. 20-26, 2022, and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and National Weather Service (NWS) are asking Tennesseans to make severe weather planning and preparedness a priority.

CURRENT SITUATION Tennessee is experiencing dual weather hazards today with a system that began with heavy rainfall, and a threat of flash flooding, slowly becoming a freezing rain event with the hazards of power outages and worsening travel conditions.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced this evening that President Biden has designated 12 Tennessee counties to receive FEMA’s Individual Assistance program through a Major Disaster Declaration for the deadly tornado outbreak on Dec. 10, and Dec. 11, 2021.
Following Thursday’s winter weather event, Tennessee’s interstates and state highways are in good condition today, though secondary roads are still icy and snow covered. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution and judgement when travelling today in the state. The State Emergency Operations Center is activated in Nashville with personnel supporting local response efforts and resource requests. Temperatures statewide will fall below freezing again Friday night in many areas of the state, before a gradual warm-up Saturday and the possibility of rain Sunday.
A winter weather system dropped significant snowfall in Tennessee today with areas along and north of I-40 receiving from 4” to 7” of accumulation and areas south of I-40 receiving a wintry mix of precipitation with little or no accumulation. The State Emergency Operations Center in Nashville is activated to a Level 3 – State of Emergency with Emergency Service Coordinators from many State of Tennessee departments whose personnel are supporting local jurisdictions directly with the winter weather response.
